Dolly Parton History

Some Dolly Parton history around her home town of popular Pigeon Forge Tennessee.

Here’s some history about her perhaps you didn’t know:

Dolly Parton was born in 1946, the 19th day of January. She grew up in hometown of Locust Ridge Tn. A lovely part of the Great Smoky Mountains.

She went to Sevier County High School, full name being Dolly Rebecca Parton. Her dad, Robert Lee and Mother Avie Lee Parton had her as their 4th child. Almost as soon as graduation was over she moved to Nashville Tn

Dolly was no stranger to writing songs and singing.

At the young age of 9, she was on a local radio station WSEV in Sevierville,Tn. Just one year later, she started appearing regularly live, on Knoxville,Tn.Television Broadcast.

It was on the Cas Walker Show. She was barely 10 years old.

Porter Wagoner, who was a very popular performer in his own rights, owning his own show, The Porter Wagoner Show.

He contacted Dolly now 21, signed her on to his show. She was with him 7 years, known all over the country, now famous on her own merit. In truth, she was known all over the world

From here to the Grand Ole Opry, movies, singing awards. There’s a lot more to her history. You can read that from her book  ”My Life and Other Unfinished Business.” Also ” Coat Of Many Colors.”

In 1986, she became part owner of  “Silver Dollar City“  and the theme park was started with her name and called Dollywood ever since.

Her theme park is in the Top 50 in the whole World, and covers well over 100 acres. Draws over 2 million visitors each year to Pigeon Forge Tn.

Dollywood - Family Fun - Adventure - Part Two

Dollywood with its famous Dolly Parton herself, wanting to give the kids and adults more than their money’s worth. To keep giving great service and fresh up to date entertainment and thrills that give the crowds a reason to come.

What else makes this park so popular?  How about Zorb inflatable plastic spheres large enough for adults to ride in as they roll down a hill.

WonderWorks which mixes entertainment and science, an amusement park for the mind.

The Miracle, telling the life of Jesus. 1700 seat theater / multi-media production / Helicoper Headquarters / a development history of Helicoper flights.

Walden’s Landing expanding to make way for retail space as well as new restaurants, a 15 million dollar development.

This is just a small amount of things to do around Pigeon Forge. Dollywood will give the whole family along with the Smoky Mountains National Park the vacation you’ve always dreamed about. (Bring camera, camcorder video.)

Dollywood - Family Fun - Adventure

The park at dollywood is so populated with constant visitors literally getting bigger. So much family oriented adventure and fun from little kids to senior citizens.

Take time to get away from all the rush. Start planning so you can get into the Smokies when the weather is just right for all you want to do.

Here’s some dolly wood suggestions:

Pigeon Forge,  place of the new dollywood project has just paid out nearly $18 million (that’s million) dollars on a “roller coaster” named Mystery Mine. And another $ 2 million plus to expand none other than Dollywoods Splash Country. This is where Thunderhead was created back in 2004, a wooden - coaster, very popular.  This largest in history of the park investment means proven excitement and fun for you.

How About the Dollywood Cascades? Beach style entrance which is a leisure pool, about 7500 square feet. Waterfall in its centerpiece that tumbles down from a large rock, which actually was created back in 2001. ( More Coming next post )

Dollywood Tennessee

Dollywood Tennessee consists of 118 acres of rides, music shows, mountain crafts, and country style foods that will delight the whole family.

Dollywood has been open since 1986 and is the namesake for Dolly Parton, renowned country music star and Sevier County’s most notable native.

Dolly is part owner of the fantastic amusement park and remains extremely active in the planning and continued development of the park. You will find lots of greenery, flowers in abundance and an overall rustic country ambience that takes you back to the real mountain way of doing things.

Dollywood was built around an existing park known as Silver Dollar City Theme Park which operated from the late 1970’s to the mid 1980’s when Dolly and company took over, and have turned the park into a 2 million visitor per year load of fun.

Dollywood Tennessee is open April through December. The theme park is open daily from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM in the summer and 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM in the spring and fall.

The Winter schedule generally runs Thursday through Sunday from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM with extended hours on the weekends. The park is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas day.

I recommend visiting the Dollywood Tennessee website for current pricing and show information.

Dollywoods address is 1020 Dollywood Lane in Pigeon Forge and can be reached at               (865) 428-9488        or               (800) 365-5996       .

To help stretch your hard earned money a little further while visiting Dollywood, here are some tips:

  • A season pass costs less than 2 one-day tickets
  • Arrive after 3:00 PM and get in the next day free
  • Purchase a discounted ticket pass for both Dolly’s Splash Country and Dollywood cheaper than buying them separately.

You will need to bring plenty of money for food, parking, games, and shopping as the prices are inflated just as they are at any theme park around the country. (It costs $5.00 to park your vehicle and $8.00 for RV’s and oversized vehicles.)
